Taco Truck and Chocolate Cake

The events of last night began with an email I got from Williams-Sonoma. This email featured a photo of the most delicious looking chocolate cake I had ever seen. I immediately knew I had to have some chocolate cake! So, I made a plan. I was going to whip up a quick batch of spaghetti for dinner and then dive into the chocolate cake process. I was pumped!

I got home from work and pulled the ground beef I bought on Sunday out of the fridge. IT WAS BROWN. Ew! I have never had beef go bad on me! It was only one day past the 'sell by' date. I called the meat department at Kroger, and the guy said it was "up to me if I cooked it or not". Um....no. He told me I could return it to the store, so that is what I did.

I had recently seen an article in a Memphis food magazine about a delicious Taco Truck that parks on Summer and Perkins. I suggested to Mac that we check it out since we had to return that beef to Kroger anyways, so we did! After searching a little bit, we found the truck! And it was delicious. Our meal was under $10 too. I had a little taco with pork, cilantro and onions and also a quesadilla type thing with pineapple and pork and a spicy sauce. Mac got three things and honestly I was too busy stuffing my face to notice what all he got. However, he was very happy with his choices as well. Look how excited he was!

So after our taco fest, we ran to Kroger, returned the beef, and headed home to (finally) make that chocolate cake I was dying to have!

Three-ish hours later we had a cake! The whole time I was making it, Mac told me he would not have a piece. Well...that warm chocolate cake with gooey icing must have been calling his name because the one piece I cut quickly disappeared! If you want a moist yummy chocolate cake use this recipe! Now I am craving it again....come on 4:30!

Yes, those are my Christmas dishes and I still have them out. I love them so much, I just don't want to put them up yet. Mac reminds me that it is no longer Christmas every time he gets one from the cabinet.

Maybe (just maybe!) I will think about putting them up this weekend.

A Tuesday Surprise

At work today, I got an email from our receptionist that I had a delivery at the front desk. And look what I found?! Beautiful flowers from Mac on a rainy day. I LOVE flowers, so this was the best surprise! Please note the handy box they give you to carry them home! It has a grid in the bottom to keep your flowers from spilling out in your car. Brilliant!

Mac, you made my day. Love you!

Last Weekend

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a great Monday! Mac and I are planning to host some friends to watch the National Championship game tonight (and I also have a Junior League meeting) so that will be fun! We had a fun/low-key weekend.

On Friday, we met friends for bowling at Billy Hardwicks. I bowled a 120. Yes, you read that correctly. Me, who has never bowled more than a 40 in my life, bowled a 120 in our first game. However, I stayed true to my talents by bowling a 37 in the second game. I have no idea how that happens! Haha.

On Saturday, I headed to Medina for the Grand Opening of Martin Family Chiropractic. Congrats, Heather! There was a great turnout and it was so much fun to see Heather's pretty, new clinic! Saturday night, Mac and I met up with friends for dinner and drinks.

Now, Sunday was a doozie. We were BUSY with a capital "B". In fact, I think it deserves a list. Here is how our Sunday played out:
  • We met Mac's Mom and Frank for lunch after church
  • We went to Sheffield Antique mall (see photos below)
  • We went to the Collierville Mall
  • We stopped in CrepeMaker (yum), Dillards, Francescas, Eddie Bauer, and Clarks
  • We returned a Christmas gift at Target
  • Picked up a free Starbucks (I heart Starbucks Rewards)
  • Stopped by Mac's Dad's house to drop something off
  • Hit up Kate Spade to return a gift and make a purchase (see photo below)
  • Made a monthly Costco trip (and spent an insane amount of money)
  • Dropped by Kroger for a few things
  • FINALLY made it home around 7:30 p.m.
  • I made Chicken and Dumplings and spent the rest of the night putting up and organizing above purchases!

Whew! Mac and I were both exhausted. I think he also did two loads of laundry and polished a pair of my shoes when we got home.

Here are a few photos of our adventures:

This is my new Kate Spade wallet! Isn't she beautiful! I was talking to it as we left the parking lot and I think Mac was questioning my sanity. I had to take a photo of the beautiful box it was packaged in. I am such a sucker for packaging.

This is a piece of furniture I need for our dream home. You know, the one with the big dining room and such. Hopefully I can track down something like this piece in the future. This photo and the next two are all from Sheffield Antique Mall.

Ok, for some reason I cannot get this photo to rotate! I am in LOVE with this desk. I am seriously thinking about purchasing it. It would be perfect for my sewing machine in the spare bedroom!

This is the vintage ostrich feather turban I found...isn't it a beaut?

It was a fun (but exhausting) Sunday! I love it when Mac and I get to run around town together!

Go Vols

Mac and I are at the UT v Memphis game tonight! One of my co-workers just got a brand new puppy (and her husband is out of town) so she decided to stay home. She sweetly offered their tickets to us! Mac and I are cheering on the Vols...it doesn't seem to be doing much good. Oh well, Go Vols!

A Holiday Week

Hello! Well I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! This week has been weird. I was off work on Monday and Tuesday, so today is Thursday but it doesn't quite feel like it.

All of our Christmas celebrations went really well. I was nervous about how our first married Christmas would work out, but it was great! We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day in Camden. All of the Cochran's were there to celebrate with us and then headed across the street to the Whitworth's for Christmas night.

On the 26th we got up early and had breakfast at Mac's Dad's house, lunch/afternoon at his Mom's then dinner at Jack and Dynelle's. We were exhausted from eating so much good food...but it was really awesome to get to visit with all of our families.

I owe you several posts of pictures and I promise that I will get to them. I have tons of great Christmas photos, WEDDING PHOTOS, and I still need to post photos of my hutch makeover!
We got our awesome wedding photos from Amy Dale about a week or so before Christmas, so I haven't had the chance to post some of my favorites. If you haven't seen any of them, be sure to check out our post on her blog. Those should tide you over. Click here!

Mac and I have gone back and forth on our NYE plans. I think today we (finally) decided to stay at home and grill steaks for dinner and enjoy some nice champagne that has been hanging out in the fridge for a few months. I hope everyone has a happy and safe New Years. Here's to 2012!

The Holiday Spirit

Last night, Mac and I volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis. The RMH is a home away from home for families while their child is being treated at St. Jude. The RMH is our intermediate stay facility for families who will be at St. Jude for two weeks up to three months. Each year they host a "toy shop" for patients to pick out gifts for their parents. Mac and I manned the store! We helped kids pick out and wrap gifts. We had such a great time!

I felt so blessed for Mac to be able to experience the joy and hope that St. Jude provides to families. I am lucky enough to see this on a daily basis...but for him to feel this made my heart happy. Mac was so good with the kids! From the teenage patient in a wheelchair to the little kid that sat in his lap while he watched Sponge Bob, Mac was a pro! Last night truly put me into the holiday spirit. I hope we can volunteer together more often in the future.

After we left the RMH we made a Kroger run and hit the kitchen when we got home (is this the theme to our week?). Mac's Dad and Kathy are coming over for dinner tonight, so I went ahead and put together the lasagna last night. We are looking forward to hosting them for dinner!
